What is a Focus Day?

More than 50 people each month serve in Brussels at a STC Focus Day – now in 8 neighbourhoods around the city. Our Focus Day takes place at our hosts, BOZAR.

We call it a Focus Day because we want to see more clearly the needs of people who are; homeless, asylum seekers, disabled, elderly, children in need, or victims of abuse. We partner with local social-profit associations serving people in need to create projects in which volunteers can get involved.

And, we also want to see our neighbourhoods more clearly. Where do we see beauty in our neighbourhoods? Where do we see brokenness? Attention allows action! Each project is a part of a neighbourhood group of projects. Currently we are active in the Marolles, Sainte-Catherine, Schaerbeek, Ixelles, and Etterbeek. More neighbourhoods to come! Choose a neighbourhood (where this is an option), then a project. The day will begin at BOZAR. We will conclude the day with a debrief in a neighborhood you served at or at our after party location.

What is Plaisir de Servir?

Plaisirs de Servir is a Serve the City initiative where we bring gifts to our friends in the streets of Brussels. Help us provide a moment of joy to those we serve during the holiday season.

Here’s what goes inside:

  • Presents (for men): nail clipper, notebook & pen, use your  imagination!
  • Canned food (NO PORK!): soup, tuna, couscous
  • Sweet Items: Chocolate
  • Soft Drinks/Juice: Preferably juice
  • Oral Hygiene Products: toothpaste, toothbrush, floss, mouthwash
  • Toiletries: Shampoo, shower gel, shaving cream, razors
  • Hats, Scarves, Gloves, and Socks: No other clothing please!

Please note that our focus are the people in the streets and many of them are males. However, we would also like to have some bags for women, and children to be distributed to other centers we partner with. We kindly ask you to pick whom you would like to make a bag for. Keep in mind that the kid’s bag should contain ONLY toys.

Join us to bring joy to our beloved city and to those in need!  Many people doing small things together can make a big difference!
