Another Big Volunteer Week on the way! We are getting ready for yet another wonderful Big Volunteer Week! This year, it will centre around the six groups of need in the city on which Serve the City focuses, namely: people who are homeless, people who are asylum seekers, people who are elderly, people with disabilities, children in need, victims of abuse. This week we will talk about children in need. Childhood is meant to be a time of joy and love and healthy development, but for many this is not the case. Children living in poverty or broken homes are particularly vulnerable. Many associations are seeking to come alongside children in need and offer help with homework, language, and social integration. We are pleased to join their efforts and engage with children in need in a creative, educational and interactive way, as well as provide some structure and order in what can be a very chaotic and difficult life. Various organizations and institutions work hard in order to improve the lives of children in need in Brussels and offer them a better future. There are children from broken homes, under-privileged families or children who are left all alone and live in centers. Serve the City tries to help them as much as possible; our volunteer spend time with the children, play with them, do arts and craft, paint and sing alongside them. They also organize French lessons to help them integrate and understand the world they live in. Children really enjoy talking to our volunteers and getting to know them while having fun and learning new things.
