I like Serve the City because it’s somewhere I can go with my friends, or alone if I want to make new ones. Since I’ve joined the Sainte Catherine neighborhood team, we’ve been thinking how we can expand our community and build friendships. We meet every Tuesday at ViaVia for drinks, but what if we also had drinks with our friends on the streets? I proposed “take a cup, make a friend” after seeing this project by a group called Soul Pancake. We offer cups of warm tea and cocoa to anyone on the streets – neighbors, homeless, passerby – and, in exchange, ask if they are willing to talk to us about one of the words written on the cups. It’s our way of spreading Serve the City’s message of love, hope, courage, and compassion through our local community.

If you like to join our Tuesday evening project, please find more info here.
