Bon Savoir is an educational facility which, quite literally, could not be closer to the Serve the City Brussels office – it’s next door! The facility provides a safe environment for children to receive extra tutoring and do their homework. Serve the City has been helping transform the facility over the last 12 months with teams of volunteers removing damp, rotted plaster from the walls during Big Volunteer Week 2012, and making and repairing tables during the summer of 2013. On our November Focus Day, a team of 7 people from 3 different continents tackled a large, dusty storage area at the back of the facility where old and new equipment is stored. The team thoroughly cleaned the storage area and the floor of the classroom, the sight of which put a big smile on the face of Bhodry, the manager of the facility. Our continuous work at Bon Savoir has enabled us to build a friendship with Bhodry and has allowed him to concentrate on the needs of his students, many of whom either struggle to keep pace with classes at school or come from underprivileged backgrounds. Bhodry, easily identifiable with his dreadlocks and warm smile, has become a familiar face to many Serve the City volunteers!
