  1. Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I’m originally from Glasgow but for over the last 16 years I’ve lived in Alva in Clackmannanshire with my partner. When I’m not volunteering I work full time for a large Scottish young person’s charity where I’ve been for nearly 16 years. I love the work that I do and many of my achievements are work related as I help to empower young people and help them to achieve their goals. I’m also proud that I volunteer with some great charities in Scotland and in Kenya.

  1. Tell us about your Volunteer Role

I hold the position of Chair for the Scottish Board of the Amuka Foundation and I’ve been helping Volunteer Scotland with their CommUnity Bubble project. The benefits I’ve received from volunteering are helping others to achieve their potential, making a difference in the community I live in as well as helping children and young people in Africa. It also helps me to stay healthy and keep active as working with young people is very fulfilling. It has also helped me encourage others to volunteer and understand how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful country.

  1. Why did you originally decide to get involved?

I was heavily involved in guiding as a child and I wanted to give back some of my time to share my experiences and skills. Since working in the youth sector I’ve learned lots of new skills that I wanted to share as well as meet new people and give back to the communities that I’ve lived in. I also wanted to raise awareness to young people about my experiences abroad and to help to make the world a better and fairer place to live and to give the chance of a better life to young people in Kenya. I fundraise and collect clothes and shoes to help the Amuka foundation.

  1. What impact did volunteering have on you?

I’ve learnt many new skills through my volunteering opportunities and met some amazing people. It has helped me be a better person and to treat everyone fairly.  I’ve learnt some new talents and have been able to share my experiences both in my professional life and my day-to-day life. I definitely feel more fulfilled by volunteering and helping others.

  1. What was your most memorable moment (to date)?

I’ve met loads of nice people and inspiring women through my volunteering. The work that has been started with the CommUnity Bubble project is a great example of community spirit and I look forward to seeing this grow.
